SUSPENDED IN TIME
28” x 42” ACRYLIC 2025
In this surrealist meditation, Isac Gres distills the Cuban condition into a vision both cosmic and intimate. The monumental hourglass becomes a metaphor for a nation suspended in time—its sands swirling in endless cycles, yet never breaking free. The great eye, at once watchful and weary, evokes both the gaze of history and the vigilance of those who endure. Rugged, eroded landscapes speak to the hardships of a people weathered by decades of stagnation, while the figure standing at the precipice embodies the artist himself: a beacon of resilience, strength, and hope. The swirling galaxies and fragments of earth echo the diaspora’s dislocation, as well as the gravitational pull of family ties that remain across the sea. Here, time is both a prison and a thread— a reminder that survival, though arduous, is also an act of defiance, and that even from afar, one can be the light that pierces the storm.
